A Tuna Sushi Waffle tastes like spicy tuna crispy rice—but in a waffle form! It’s easily made by pressing sushi rice into a waffle maker until it is golden-brown and crispy. Then it gets topped with marinated raw tuna, fresh cucumbers, avocado and green onions. And the whole thing get drizzled with creamy Japanese mayo and spicy sriracha. Sounds good? It tastes even better!

This is deceiving simple to make and tastes just like your favorite sushi roll. Just add rice to a pre-heated waffle maker, press the rice down a bit to ensure you are filling in the waffle shape, close and cook until golden-brown.

This recipe is 100% inspired by a sushi waffle I came across on TikTok by Victoria Minell. In my version, the main difference is that I strongly prefer tuna over salmon when prepared raw, so I swapped that out, added my own twist, and gave you all of my measurements for how I made this trending recipe below. I hope you enjoy this fun twist on sushi! Watch my video on instagram here.

Tuna Sushi Waffle Recipe
Equipment:
Waffle Maker (I used the Presto Ceramic FlipSide)
Ingredients:
12 oz sushi grade tuna, diced
1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
1 teaspoon soy sauce
3 cups cooked sushi rice (I love the brand Nishiki)
1/4 cup seasoned rice vinegar
1/4 of a cucumber, diced
1/2 of an avocado, diced
1 green onion, thinly sliced
Sriracha & Japanese mayo for topping
Step 1.
Cook your sushi rice. While the rice is still hot slowly pour rice vinegar over the back of a wooden spoon into the rice and then fold it in gently. Try not to break any of the rice while adding the vinegar.
Step 2.
Combine diced tuna, sesame oil, and soy sauce in a small bowl and set in the fridge to marinate for 10 minutes while you make the rice waffle.
Step 3.
Preheat your waffle maker for 2 minutes or until hot. Add cooked and seasoned rice to the waffle maker and press the rice down firmly. Close and cook 4 minutes on each side, 8 minutes total until golden-brown.
Step 4.
Slide waffle onto a plate and top with marinated tuna, cucumber, and avocado. Drizzle sriracha and Japanese mayo over the waffle and top with green onions. Enjoy!
